For Immediate Release
As an organization in Consultative Status with the United Nations, the Assyrian Universal Alliance – Americas Chapter has participated in several international human rights conferences and works to highlight the situation of Assyrians living in Iraq, Syria, and Turkey.
This March, the Human Rights Council will be convening to its 28th session in Geneva. At the session, the council is scheduled to address several thematic issues relevant to our people in the Middle East, including the human rights abuses committed by the Islamic State, the situation of minorities, and religious freedom. These issues will be taken up from Tuesday March 17th – Thursday March 26th.
AUA Americas looks to build upon its prior advocacy work by inviting representatives from grassroots organizations from Iraq and Syria to provide firsthand accounts of the situation faced by Assyrian Christians in the Middle East within the context of the Council’s work. This year’s participants will include two delegates from AUA Americas Global Advocacy Initiative and two delegates from Iraq.
AUA Americas looks forward to working and collaborating with any and all Assyrian organizations in advancing the interests of our community.
