The current persecution of Assyrian Christians in Iraq and Syria is one of the most severe in decades. The rise of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) has brought upon immense suffering for inhabitants of the region and intensified a history of discrimination against minorities. Thousands of Assyrian Christians have already fled the targeted violence, facing not only security and displacement issues but also a humanitarian nightmare. The situation of those who remain in the area remains bleak at best.
