Assyrian memorial wins approval
BY STACEY VANOSKA FAIRFIELD Council has approved a plan for a memorial to honour Assyrian military personnel. Last week's council meeting added to Cr Anwar Khoshaba's call that the council discuss a site in Fairfield municipality for the memorial with the Assyrian Levies Association. The amendment was made, although a site at the south-western end of Honour Avenue in Fairfield Park had been proposed in a council report. Association president Gaby Kiwarkis said the location proposed was ``perfect''. ``It is a great location and we would be honoured to have a memorial plaque there,'' he said. Mayor Nick Lalich said the council would ``endeavour to consult closely with the association to ensure the best outcomes for both the local Assyrian and the wider Fairfield community''. |
